Best Coastal Walks in Anglesey

Discover 5 of the best coastal walks on Anglesey for spectacular seaside scenery and charming seaside villages. Includes top routes for families, hikers and dog walks.

With its rugged cliffs, sandy coves, and sweeping coastal views, Anglesey has fast become a favourite UK walking destination. And when looking for the best coastal walks this scenic Welsh isle has to offer, the lively village of Rhosneigr makes the perfect base.

Perched on the northwest edge of Anglesey, Rhosneigr delivers the ideal starting blocks to some of the area’s most picturesque seaside strolls. From family-friendly ambles to more challenging treks, discover our top 5 coastal walks to enjoy during your Rhosneigr getaway.

1. Rhosneigr Circular Beach Walk

For an easy and scenic beach walk accessible straight from the village, the circular Rhosneigr loop is a top choice. Starting by the main beach next to the RAF monument, head north on the coastal path for 2.5km towards Tywyn Trewan beach. Continuing at low tide, reach inland at Cymyran beach before the wetlands of Crigyll and loop back into Rhosneigr.

The round trip is around 5 miles depending on the tide levels and offers fantastic views over the sandy bays, rocky coves, and Snowdonia mountains in the distance. With a few beach cafes en route, refuel with an ice cream or seaside snack!

2. Porth Trecastell & Mynydd Bodafon Walk

Just 10 10-minute drive up the coast, park at the National Trust's Porth Trecastell for a fabulous figure of 8 walk. Heading first along the clifftops to Mynydd Bodafon, soak up sublime sea vistas with puffins and seabirds to spot from March to July.

Descend from the headland towards Lligwy Beach, then continue around Dinas Bay and back to your starting point. The route covers around 5 miles with some inclines and allows dogs all year (on a lead during bird nesting season - please!).

3. Church Bay & Porth Swtan Walk

Starting near the village of Llanfaethlu, this picturesque part of the Anglesey Coastal Path delivers coastal drama with striking cliff scenery. The round trip covers 7 miles to Church Bay at takes in the abandoned brickworks at Melin Llynon.

Continuing on the cliffs towards Porth Swtan, keep an eye out for seals, dolphins, and even an offshore wind farm on the horizon on sunny days. Just be aware of some sheer drops at cliff edges for any little ones.

4. Cemlyn Nature Reserve Walk

For gorgeous coastal scenery with minimal effort, Cemlyn Reserve serves up epic views across Carn Llundain and the Irish Sea - complete with birdlife galore. The 1.2-mile accessible trail starts from the car park and leads out towards the lagoon and shingle ridge that attracts oystercatchers, terns and seals. With telescopes also provided, it's a top (and flat) walk in Anglesey for ornithologists and families alike.

5. Penrhos Coastal Park Walk

Found midway between Rhosneigr and Holyhead, this country park occupies a special spot between the cliff and the sea. Following the coastal path towards North Stack leads you to the town's historic lighthouse while the inland route takes you through woodlands and a quarry-come-nature-reserve.

With artefacts like limekilns and shortgrass plains covered in orchids and wildflowers, there's plenty of natural beauty and history as you trace the peninsula. The circular walk is around 3.5 miles from the main car park.
